Crashes, freezes, noises, we evaluate many errors in the PS5 console
The PlayStation 5 has been released around the world and is already enjoying considerable success despite too many stock shortages. Like previous console launches, this one is plagued with more or less serious bugs and technical problems, ranging from simple freezes to machine crashes. The main purpose of this file is to identify all the known bugs of the PS5.
As you may know, the PlayStation 5 is officially available in 2020. As the chaos surrounding the PS5 pre-order foreshadowed, the console's launch didn't go to the best of times. Health crisis obliges, Sony has seen fit to protect its employees, its partner resellers and its customers by exclusively resorting to online sales.
Well obliged, the players therefore rushed to the e-commerce sites to try to buy their precious sesame. A record crowd that got the better of the vast majority of sites, Amazon, Boulanger, Auchan or Leclerc, not a single one managed to withstand this wave of several hundred thousand customers. At present, it is always difficult to obtain a PS5, with restocking always limited in quantity.
To the great difficulties in obtaining the console, we must unfortunately add many technical problems. Like the launches of the PS4, the Xbox One or even the Xbox 360 in its time, that of the PS5 is also marred by unpleasant surprises. To the chagrin of the players. Repeated crash in rest mode, multiple problems on the DualSense, compatibility issues with 4K HDR… Let's take stock of all the known bugs of the PS5 so far.
THE DUALSENSE IS BEING UP
The DualSense controller is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the PS5. The controller of the new Sony machine has several new features, such as haptic feedback. This technology simulates unique textures and sensations to enhance player immersion. Add to that the adaptive triggers integrated into the L2 and R2 buttons, which allow players to take advantage of a more or less strong resistance depending on the actions performed in game. Despite all its qualities, the controller is the victim of some annoying bugs .
Lately, players have noticed that the DualSense could be the victim of a problem similar to the Joy-Con Drift of the Nintendo Switch. In other words, the controller's joysticks activate on their own, without the slightest intervention from the player. The problem has also taken on a large scale recently, since American players have decided to file a complaint against Sony.
Among the other concerns spotted on the DualSense, we note the impossibility of recharging the controller on the USB port on the front panel, especially when the PS5 is in Rest mode. We did not notice this kind of problem on our test version either. But Sony released an update to the controller in November 2020 that fixes these issues.
Additionally, some gamers have experienced disturbing noises in their headphones when navigating the PS5 menus. This interference appears to be caused by a nearby Bluetooth device, such as the DualSense. It is recommended to turn off and turn on the DualSense several times to stop the problem.
FANS A LITTLE TOO NOISY
At the end of November, many players complained on social networks and to Sony's after-sales service about noise pollution related to the fan of their PS5. After the dismantling of several consoles by our colleagues from the Les Numériques site, it turns out that the manufacturer used at least two different fans to assemble its new consoles.
Unfortunately, they are not identical, and some models have a different number and profile of blades. Result, the sound level differs from one model to another, the quietest displaying 39 decibels against 43 decibels for the noisiest. For the time being, it is impossible to guess before purchasing whether or not your console has the “good” fan. It's the lottery.
Additionally, several gamers have claimed on social media that their PS5 is making a lot of noise. A user took the initiative to open his console to find a sticker stuck in the fans of the machine. Once removed, the noise pollution disappears. Only, we advise you not to imitate this user, at the risk of blowing up your manufacturer's warranty.
A RATHER UNSTABLE REST MODE
When the PS5 released in 2020, we saw a flurry of complaints about the PS5's Rest Mode. According to aggrieved players, Rest Mode on the console causes some pretty serious issues, ranging from PS5 crashing to corrupting and deleting saves. Some users have even been forced to go through the Database Rebuild box.
These bugs mainly affect flagship titles of the launch, such as Demon's Souls, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales or even GodFall. Previous game developers quickly fixed the issue through updates, but some minor crashes may still occur.
A CAPRICIOUS BLU-RAY PLAYER
After fans, Rest Mode and DualSense, the PS5's Blu-Ray player had to do its part as well. According to several testimonials posted on Reddit and ResetEra, sometimes the PS5 spins a disc for no reason, even when the player is busy on a digital app or game.
“I have the Ghost of Tsushima disc in my PS5 right now and it's spinning even if I'm playing Spiderman or Demon's Souls. I can understand the console checking that the disc is still inside, but surely it doesn't need to spin it so fast and so loudly,” one user recounts.
For other gamers, the console's Blu-Ray drive is causing an extremely loud shrill noise, again for no apparent reason. For now, the only valid solution is to remove the Blu-Ray from the player and restart your console, before trying again. We had this issue on our test console, and simply turning it back on fixed it.
